The Prodigal Son

by Christian Thomas Golden

These twists and turns have straightened my course,
guided forth by a blinding light.
I’ve been lead down to a higher place,
and reduced to a greater power.
I tasted the strength of hunger,
and the satisfaction of thirst.
I touched the nonexistent
with amputated arms.
I loved with someone else’s heart,
and took my own possessions.
I died to live another day,
and closed my eyes to wake up.
I lost what never once was mine,
and gained what always was.
I dove into the desert,
climbing up to hell and back.

Through it all, my Father never left me.
